La cestería hecha con las fibras naturales de la paja tetera y el chocolatillo hace parte de la tradición de los artesanos de la comunidad indígena Eperaara Siapidaara, ubicada en Guapi, Cauca. Las manos expertas de las mujeres artesanas transforman estas fibras, teñidas con tintes vegetales, en piezas de uso doméstico como el canasto cuatro tetas. Sus diseños hacen referencia a las figuras de la selva y los elementos de su cosmovisión. Estas cestas se utilizan para transportar y guardar diferentes objetos y las de tamaño promedio tardan de seis a ocho días en ser elaboradas.
Basketry made from Tetera and Chocolatillo straws, both natural fibers, is part of the artisanal tradition of the Eperaara Siapidaara indigenous community from Guapi, Cauca. The craftswomen’s hands transform these naturally dyed fibers into wares fit for domestic use like the “cuatro tetas” basket. Their designs take the shapes of either the animals and plants from the rainforest or of diverse elements from their worldview. These baskets are mostly used to store and transport various objects. An average-sized basket is woven in six to eight days.
